Free Style Quilting: No Rules, No Rulers….Really!

(Introduction to Art Quilting)

Give yourself the freedom to create, enjoy color, shape, and design without traditional quilting rules of perfectly matched corners and perfectly square blocks! Release your inner kindergartener in this workshop! Art quilting is hugely popular in the art world, and this workshop is designed for persons wanting to get a glimpse of that world. Teacher Shawn Marie Delker will show you how to use freestyle quilting to create your own masterpiece. Techniques taught will be designing with and piecing wonky squares and rectangles, piecing tips for deep curves in a design, making color choices, and an introduction to thread drawing. You also will receive a resource list for more information about other types of art quilting, so that long after the workshop you can continue to explore the world of textile art.

Please note that there is no pattern to follow in this workshop, and no supplies will be sold during the workshop; it is a techniques-only workshop. A supply sheet will provide a list of required supplies participants must bring.

Teacher Shawn Marie Delker, has been teaching traditional quilting methods for more than 10 years. She began exploring the art quilt world four years ago and soon realized that the free-form art quilt was her passion.   Shawn continues to explore and learn new techniques and has a website at www.benttwigquilts.com, where you can learn more about her past work and new areas she is exploring. She was recently selected for her first juried gallery exhibit, and she is always looking for new ways of sharing her passion for art quilts with others.
